Preventing Heatstroke During High-Temperature Work in Summer
Heatstroke is an acute condition caused by a disruption in the body’s temperature regulation under high-temperature conditions, and if not managed properly, it can be life‑threatening. The cornerstone of emergency treatment is to rapidly and effectively lower core body temperature. ⚠️ Step 1: Recognize the signs of heatstroke · Prodromal heatstroke: dizziness, headache, thirst, excessive sweating, fatigue, and difficulty concentrating. Body temperature is normal or slightly elevated (<38°C). · Mild heatstroke: flushed face, profuse sweating, cool and clammy skin, and rapid pulse. Body temperature rises above 38°C. · Severe heatstroke (heat stroke): the most dangerous form, often with a body temperature exceeding 40°C, accompanied by confusion, seizures, or even coma. 🆘 Step 2: The “Five‑Step” First Aid Protocol If heatstroke is suspected, immediately implement the following measures: 1. Move: Quickly relocate the patient to a cool, well‑ventilated area (such as under a tree or in an air‑conditioned room), loosen clothing around the neck and waist, and ensure clear airways. 2. Apply: Wipe the head with lukewarm water, then apply cold compresses or ice packs (wrapped in a towel) to the forehead, neck, armpits, and groin. 3. Hydrate: If the patient is conscious, offer small sips of diluted salt water or an electrolyte‑rich sports drink frequently. 4. Rub: Use a cool, wet towel to rub the limbs and torso, while using a fan to enhance evaporative cooling. 5. Observe: Closely monitor the patient. If symptoms do not improve, or if high fever, confusion, or seizures develop, call 120 immediately. 🚨 Step 3: Indications for Urgent Medical Attention Seek immediate medical help and continue cooling measures if any of the following occur: · Persistent body temperature above 40°C that does not respond to cooling efforts. · Confusion, loss of consciousness, or seizures. · Difficulty breathing, dropping blood pressure, or uncontrollable vomiting.
